Delayed Monday

Gosh! I should really get back into my ol' blog routine. Was just a crazy weekend and I am late posting (again!).

I'm gonna start the week off with a little meme which I discovered a little while ago. Its a series of questions. Actually, 3 questions. Pretty simple at first glance but when you start to answer them, they can get a little bit tricky.

Might be too late to play along this week but you can catch the question game next Monday :-)

1. Are you a talker or a listener? Is it ever possible to really be both?

When I was a kid, I more the talker than a listener. Then again, when you are a kid, you are always encouraged to talk anyways until your yapping starts to annoy people. But as I grew older, I listened more and it sort of became a balance but still leaned more towards the "talking" part. Its an inborn talent..LOL

2. Do you think God has a sense of humor?

Definitely. He gave me my sisters...ouch! LOL

Do you believe in love at first sight? Have you ever experienced it?

Love, no way! Crush, all the time :-)

Random ramblings

Finally, my mobile is finally repaired. "What on earth am I talking about?", you say. Well, I broke my mobile a couple of months back. It just won't turn on for some reason and I was a little devastated cos its not the phone numbers in there that went missing but photos of Ashley as well. For convenience, I often took photos of her using my mobile. Yeah, I know I shouldn't cos the photos really doesn't turn out good in the end, but it was the nearest and fastest thing I could get my hands on.

Anyway, we sent the phone in for repairs about a month ago. In fact, I think it was slightly more than a month ago and we were beginning to think that the phone was beyond repair. And I have to come to terms with those photos being lost, forever. But we received a call just yesterday from the shop that its alright now and we can go pick it up. Hurray!! But, but I shouldn't get all excited until I see it and make sure all my photos are intact.

Ever since I was phone-less these past couple of months, I started using my digital camera once more. The very reason I didn't like using it in the past was because I didn't know how to handle the thing. What with all the specific functions and all. Well, I think I've gotten the hang of it now and I must say that the pictures turns out much better than using my mobile *duh*.

Now that I am *ahem* better *cough* with my camera, I am feeling kind of adventurous. I am now eyeing the Rebel XSi! But I am looking at alternatives at the moment cos that one costs a bomb although its my first choice. If I am dead serious on it, I might have to look into some hard core debt consolidation loans for my credit card bills..O_O

I learnt somehing new

Remember I once said that the blogging world has much to offer? I never said it? OK, maybe I didn't, I really can't remember but am saying it now though..heheh..

There is always something new, or something that has already been there but it just took me some time to get the hang of it. However, this time, a new word came from this one HOT gal.

This shall be my craptacular post of the week! LOL..I told you she is funny and I am too...:-D. Really, I have done nothing spectacular nor seemingly close, the past few days have been quite average with a little spice - the kid has sniffles! Thanks to me. Now that I am better, she caught the germs. Thankfully no fever, just sniffs and rather clingy. I didn't take her to the doctors cos I am nipping the bug at its bud. I've just been giving her water and more water and kept her out of the sun for a while. Didn't venture outdoors for a few days. Thankfully, she's a lot better this morning and as for me, I'm going off now to find out if having medical id tags are really useful! Told ya' this would be a craptacular post..*wink*

[Just like when they say that everyday should be Mother's Day, I think the same should be had for Dads. I don't think I've given the hubs much credit for being the fantastic father that he is. Despite my occasional grumbling about him, he is actually very good with Ash. I know he tries to be home earlier and more often but sometimes, its just not possible but whenever he is, he is the best. Ash simply adores her father. You can tell by the way her eyes light up whenever she sees her Daddy and when her Daddy's home, she is always playing with him. She just can't get enough of him. She is really lucky to have him as a Dad, we are lucky to have him in our lives. "Happy Father's Day dear, and thank you for everything! - xoxo" ]

The Babe and Moi

Sandra tagged me with this interesting meme. I've searched high and low for a photograph that would hide my flaws and accentuate my figure. As it turned out, I can't find any!! LOL...So, I thought, why not just post a photo of what I would typically look like if you'd see me on the streets. At least, the one thing I am happy about myself is that I don't need to take any diet pills..OK, here goes nothing...

taaaaddaaa...

This was taken about 2 weeks back at my mom's place, on her couch to be exact.

Now, I'd like to see a photo of Barb and her lil Ashley.

A mommy's triumph

OK, its my triumph la.

This morning, I fell asleep on the couch. I woke up from my sleep in the middle of the night due to my terrible sniffles. It gets bad in the night. I came downstairs cos I couldn't sleep. Turned on the tube, there was nothing. Turn the lappie on, finished up an assignment while listening to Could it be that I'm falling in love, the David Grant version. When the song was released, I was about 11 yr. So, go figure how “young” I am..LOL..

After all that dancing and twirling finishing up my assignment, I fell asleep on the couch. I woke up to the sounds of Ash and me hubby. He put her down in her play-pan next to me and went to the kitchen to prepare her milk. I was still half dazed. He came out, put the bottle on the arm-rest of the 2 seater, went over to Ash to pick her up and discovered her diaper was soaked through. Her legs were wet as well. He dashed to get her rubber mat and placed on the 2 seater. He then picked her up, removed her pjama pants and diapers and gave her the bottle. Now, you can imagine how that looked. I was smiling from inside the downstairs bathroom.

Then, I saw him walking seemingly towards the play-pan and then stopped, and then to her and then stopped and then, he looked as if he wanted to search for something but don't know how and where to begin. My smile was wider and I told him “Why don't you just take her to the bathroom?” because he was complaining that her legs were wet too. As soon as I told him that it was like “oh now thats a good idea” for him. Ash threw away her bottle and got up, beginning to climb all over the sofa, butt naked but not before he carried her to the bathroom.

I thought I could leave him alone since he showers Ash during the weekends anyways and I can start to busy myself in the kitchen but no. I heard a very loud “Mommy...mommy...mommy....can you help”. I was like “WTH”??? That was not even Ash, it was the hubby. Apparently he couldn't get Ash to stand on the bathroom floor so he could hose her down. I ran from the kitchen to the bathroom and as soon as she saw me, she grabbed my pj pants for dear life while her daddy hosed her butt and legs down. After which, I grabbed her towel, wiped her dry, put on a clean diaper and some clean clothes.

After that, there were no thank yous or no “what would we do without you?”. Nope, I get the normal “eh, hurry up with the washing ok, I need to go to work already” courtesy of the hubs and “pillows, toys, bottles, hankies thrown all over the floor from the play-pan” courtesy of the child.

You know, what we as moms do or our “work” often goes un-noticed doesn't it? I mean, sure, this isn't the first time for me but it is the first time I'm writing about it if my memory has not failed me. Little things like these are like triumphs for us is because they are precisely what it is – little things that doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure them out but yet for some reason, only moms know what and how to do it.

Having the sniffles

Gosh, it really hasn't been too good the past few days. My mom got robbed on Monday but like I mentioned, thank god that she's alright and weren't hurt. I went to see her in the afternoon and she was already running about getting the police report done up cos everything went missing - her driver's licence, Identification card etc...Other than that, she's ok.

Then, came the flu bug. It bit me yesterday. Ash spent the afternoon with her grandma while I slept in the afternoon. Terrible sore throat and a fever. Ash sounded a little nasal in the morning so I quickly made her porridge and shipped her over to my MIL, far and away from me.

The short snooze did wonders but the electricity went dead. And there goes my recovery plan. It was so hot and humid, I had to down plenty of liquid just to keep myself hydrated. I went to bed early last night. Didn't want to take any chances. Left the feeding to the hubs.

This morning was better. Recovered from the fever but the sniffles and sore throat is still lingering around, refusing to leave me body and give me some peace. Drowsy from the medication, I went searching to food in the kitchen cabinet. Not realizing a brand new bottle of coffee was close to the edge, I removed the pasta package and as I was doing that, it brushed against the bottle and fell. Glass shattered and coffee all over the kitchen floor. Darn! More work. I ended up cleaning the mess when I should be resting since Ash was asleep.

And to think, today is only Wednesday and have yet to get my balance transfer done. I hope all of this will end and I can have some peace and tranquility. No wait. I have a toddler to take care of...Arrggghhhh!!!

What a match

It was almost a marathon on the tube yesterday. It started from 7pm and only ended around 1-ish in the morning. Didn't have time to blog and certainly didn't have time to look for some cheap hotels for our planned girls get-away.

I had sort of expected the matches to lasts a long time anyway but I had thought Nadal would've been in more trouble than Federer. Looks like Fed will be having another tough time in the finals. There is just no question, Nadal seems like the stronger of the two.

Oh well, inspired by a blogging friend, I will be on my way now to have my McD's big breakfast shortly. So, catch ya later.

My favourite stomach feed

I actually have quite a few but I had this 2 Sundays' back. Don't start drooling now..hehhehe

My mom, the greatest cook on earth, makes Assam Laksa or Penang laksa occasionally on weekends. This particular version of a local delicacy is more prominent in the Northen part of my country. I'm not entirely sure where it originates from or what its called in English but here is an excerpt from Wiki (don't we just love Wiki??!!) :

Assam laksa is a sour fish-based soup. Asam (or asam jawa) is the Malay word for tamarind, which is commonly used to give the stock its sour flavor. It is also common to use "asam keping" also known as "asam gelugor", dried slices of tamarind fruit, for added sourness. Modern Malay spelling is asam, though the spelling assam is still frequently used.

The main ingredients for assam laksa include shredded fish, normally kembung fish or mackerel, and finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillis, pineapple, lettuce, common mint, "daun kesum" (Vietnamese mint or laksa mint) and pink bunga kantanvermicelli). And topped off with "petis udang" or "hae ko", a thick sweet prawn/shrimp paste. (ginger buds). Assam laksa is normally served with either thick rice noodles or thin rice noodles (vermicelli) And topped off with "petis udang" or "hae ko", a thick sweet prawn/shrimp paste.

If you like Thai tomyam, I think you might enjoy this or you might not cos the soup base is fish. Not many are crazy over fish.
